About
Still Life and Street.
M.C. Escher, 1937. Escher in Het Paleis, The Hague. Woodcut 48.7 x 49 cm.
This site was conceived as a collation of personal curiosities and a digital commonplace resource for exploring ideas that demand rigorous and honest contemplation and a slower pace.
Its content is best understood as a modest accumulation of somewhat organised thoughts and provisional understandings by the author.
Its guiding principle is St Paul’s directive to the Philippians:
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise—dwell on these things…
Who is Simji? #
I am of Korean descent. Simji (審遲/심지) is my pen name (호) which combines
- 審: meticulous examination/refusal to judge superficially; and
- 遲: deliberate slowness/unhurried pace/letting things mature.
In Korean, this is a homophone of “candle wick” (Lk 8.16).
Readership #
The primary intended reader of this site is myself. As such, I write exclusively about subjects that are of interest to me.
Iterative Improvement #
Articles are living documents; they are never truly “final”. Each entry functions as a log of thoughts, and commit dates are marked against each article.
